AW38 BLADE INCIDENT UPDATE

Offshore wind mariner update NO. 106

STATUS: Active

Mariners are advised of a 500-meter safety zone located in the Vineyard Wind 1 wind farm project area (Lease Area OCS-A 0501) due to a damaged GE Vernova wind turbine blade on wind turbine generator "AW38," from the central point of position 40° 58.214' N, 070° 27.612' W.

USCG and NOAA produce drift models used to determine potential drift path(s) of debris based on current weather conditions.  The models are conservative estimates of the potential for debris to be found within a defined area.  They do not indicate that debris is in fact present throughout the area.  Vineyard Wind is alerting mariners to the potential presence of debris and to request that mariners use caution while transiting the area.  The areas described below represent results of recent drift modeling combined with current observations of Vineyard Wind overflights and vessel-based debris recovery efforts.

Mariners are advised to reduce speed and keep a lookout for potential debris in this area.

If debris is identified, mariners are requested to notify Coast Guard via VHF Channel 16 and Vineyard Wind via the hotline below:
