OCEAN WAKES STUDY (#109)
Offshore wind mariner update NO. 109
STATUS: Active
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI), Rutgers University, and Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon Institute will be conducting an observational physical oceanographic study within the Vineyard Wind 1 Wind Development Area (WDA) as part of Project Ocean W’aKEs to identify the influence of wind turbine foundations on water column stratification. The study will involve the use of two autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV), bottom mounted AD2CP, and a subsurface wirewalker mooring system. Equipment will be deployed on or around the week of Aug 21st by the TENACIOUS II. They will be located within the WDA, focusing primarily within a 300m radius of AT37. The AUVs will operate between 5-7m above the sea floor and will surface occasionally 1-2 NM South of AT37. The AUVs will also conduct a mission around the WDA undulating to similar depths and surfacing occasionally.
